California Adventure Food and Wine Festival
Disney’s California Food and Wine Festival is a six-week festival. 2010 will be its fifth year at Disney's California Adventure. It will be held from April 16 until May 31, 2010. The Disneyland Resort is the host to this festival that showcases the diverse tastes of the Golden State.
The festival events included cooking schools, winemaker dinners, cooking demonstrations, wine, beer, and spirit seminars, and a Marketplace where appetizers, beer and wine are available. This year the Festival events will be held daily at the Pacific Wharf and Golden Vine Winery areas, and on the weekends, it will expand into venues in the Bountiful Farms area.
The Festival Highlights for this year are:
• “Taste of California” Marketplace, Star Lounge presented by Stella Artois, Festival Gift Shop
• The “Wine Seller”, Showplace Stage
and so much more.
From Friday until Sunday, there will be celebrity chefs and noted sommeliers who conduct demonstrations and seminars as well as host special dinners. Most of the action will occur at Disney’s California Adventure Park while some events are at the Grand California’s award winning Napa Rose Restaurant.
Most events at the Food and Wine Festival are free with a paid parking admissions, but there also a number of signature events that are quickly selling out, including:
• “Taste Food-Wine-Life” gala which will be held on May 29 for $135
• Grand Reserve Wine Pairings dinners on May 8 with Flora Spring Winery
• May 22 with David Arthur for $185 each
• The Sunday gourmet breakfast for $70, which several have already been sold out
• Saturday wine-tasting classes for $55, Reidel Glass Tastings on April 24 and May 28 for $90
and several winemaker dinners and cooking classes are already sold out.
Highlights of the festival for parkgoers are mostly scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. each Friday and Saturday afternoon.
They include:
• Guy Fieri (star of the “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” who will appear at the park on April 16 - 17th)
• “Next Food Network Star” with Jeffrey Saad from April 23 to April 25
• “Iron Chef America” starring Cat Cora on April 25
• “Cooking for Real” starring Sunny Anderson from April 30 to May 2
• James Beard Award-winning chef/restaurateur Art Smith from May 7 to May 9
• “Food Network Challenge” starring Keegan Gerhard from May 14 to May 15
• “Top Chef” finalist and La Jolla resident Brian Malarkey on May 16 at 11 a.m.
• Simon LA’s Kerry Simon on May 21 and May 22
• “Dinner Impossible” starring Robert Irvine on May 21 and May 22
• “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef” host by Anne Burrell on May 28
• “Chef Jeff Project” host by Jeff Henderson on May 28 and May 29
The daily schedule varies, but generally cooking demonstrations are taken place at the park’s Sunshine Plaza stage beginning at 11 a.m. from Friday to Sundays and at 1 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. In the park’s Hollywood Pictures Backlot area, the new Festival Showplace theater at Stage 12 will be having the Taste of California Marketplace, where tapas (small plates) and gourmet beers will be for sale. That is also the place where wine, beer, and spirits seminars and bottle signings will be held each afternoon. Seminar tickets are $1 and can be purchased one hour before showtime, while supplies last and a photo ID is required (ages 21 and up only). Also in the same area, children’s “Jr. Chef” cooking classes for age 11 and under will be taking place through the day on the weekends.
